About St. Mary's Park
St. Mary's Park is a residential neighborhood in the Southwestern corner of Bernal Heights, San Francisco. Established in 1924 on the former grounds of St. Mary's College — a Catholic institution that operated here from 1863 to 1889 — the neighborhood was designed with a distinctive bell-shaped street layout as a nod to the college's belfry.
The streets themselves carry the history: Alemany Boulevard, Justin Drive, Genebern Way, Murray Street, and College Avenue are all named for figures connected to St. Mary's College. Eight landscaped islands — including the College Medians and Benton Island — put the "park" in St. Mary's Park.
